Of all the 911 variants, few possess the visceral performance and purity of design found in the original 1967 S models. Completed on June 20, 1967, this 911 S Coupe was originally finished in a rare color scheme of Sand Beige over beige leatherette and optioned with an antenna, loudspeaker and Dunlop tires.

According to previous owner Joseph Schumacher, this Porsche is believed to have resided in California’s Bay Area for the majority of its years and is thought to have had just five owners from new. When Mr. Schumacher purchased the car in 2002, it is said to have been in very well preserved condition, showing areas of original paint and very little corrosion. Above all, the panel fit was excellent with no sign of previous accident damage, the original engine was still in place and the correct numbers were stamped on the doors, fenders and deck lid. Remarkably, the chassis number was even discovered beneath the dash, handwritten in factory chalk.

Mr. Schumacher immediately embarked on a restoration to return the rare sports car to its original splendor, having the bodywork carefully media blasted and epoxy primed before being prepared for paintwork. When that work was completed, Harvey Weidman restored the Fuchs alloy wheels, Autobahn Interiors reupholstered the cockpit and Palo Alto Speedometer restored the iconic green-on-black gauges. At the same time, the 911 S received the appropriate mechanical attention, as well as the addition of tasteful period-correct details such as the striking hounds tooth seat inserts and Hella fog lamps.

The quality restoration and unique appearance of this early 911 S has earned it an impressive string of top honors in judged competition. Among others, this car has earned First in Class and First in Category awards at the 2009 PCA Zone 7 Meet, a First in Class at the 2010 Marin Sonoma Concours, a First in Class at the 2010 Chico Concours and First in Class, Best Porsche and Best of Show awards at the 2010 Legends of the Autobahn show in Carmel.

In March 2012, the current owner commissioned Mike Schatz of MKS Performance, a respected Porsche specialist in Camarillo, California, to perform a refurbishment of the original engine. Once the car arrived in the workshop, the engine was meticulously rebuilt as needed with new chain tensioners, rocker arms, bearings, correct original cams and freshly machined heads. Since this work was completed, the 911 has been driven over 2,000 miles and has been kept in magnificent cosmetic condition inside and out.

Complete with a tool kit, jack, a collection of invoices and a Certificate of Authenticity from Porsche, this 911 S offers every quality sought by collectors: a beautiful appearance, an authentic restoration, an award-winning pedigree and consistent high-quality maintenance. For those in search of an exceptional 911 S, there is simply no need to look any further than the superb example presented here.
